MORE ABOUT THE MUSIC
Mud & Ashes
Mud & Ashes is the first song I ever wrote, more than 20 years ago. I wanted to revisit it, spruce it up a bit, and see how it might sound NOW. At producer Pamela Parker's suggestion, I added a new section for the solo, and repeated part of that new chord progression behind the last stanza of the final verse, to tie it all together. I am thrilled at this incarnation of what has remained one of my favorite songs!
To me, the lyrics are about resilience, about building ourselves and our lives from ALL that life gives us, and remembering to leave space for the beautiful and the unexpected. Scroll down this page if you'd like to read them and see what they say to you.

These Eyes of Mine
These Eyes of Mine grew from the idea that life is as I perceive it to be. If I get to choose, I'm picking a party every time! The upbeat New Orleans second line feel perfectly expressed what I was feeling when I wrote this tune.

Jen Rund (lead vocals and bass)
Joe Craven (percussion)
Sarah Songbird Larkin (harmony vocals)
Sarah Ryan (harmony vocals)
Chris DelCamino (a full party of brass!)
Home In Here (the single)
Written in response to the general weirdness of the summer of 2020 - covid shutdown, social justice protests, wildfires lighting up the West, the weirdest US presidency ever - 'Home In Here' speaks to my feelings of wanting to do more to help my community, as well as the hope inherent in the thought that we are all part of a community, are not alone, and can at any time come home to ourselves.
Featured on this track:
Jen Rund - bass and lead vocals
Jordan Feinstein - organ and clavinet
Jeff Miller - guitars
Christopher Krotky - drums
Sarah Songbird Larkin - harmony vocals
Sarah Ryan - harmony vocals

Song Lyrics
These Eyes of Mine
I looked for illumination I took stock of the situation
I found it was good I found it was good
I turned my sight to the light in the sky
Reflected in your eyes
I found it was good I found it was good
Chorus:
People all around
Helpin’ each other off the ground
Makin’ music, laughin’ loud
oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
oooooh oh ooh oh, oh oh oh oh
I looked at my nation I saw trials and tribulations
Had to look for the good I was lookin’ for the good
I saw at my tribe lovin’ arms spread wide
Glow down deep inside
I found it was good I found it was good
Chorus
At times I see it all smiles come, tears fall
I find it is good I find it is good
As I seek, so shall I find
Eyes of soul, eyes of mind
In the end it’s all mine
I find it is good I find it is good
Chorus
Lost & Found
Got a little story to tell
In the end it worked out well
But man, I tell you there were moments
A traveler’s life is never sure
I’m here to tell you, no matter the lure
Just be sure that you have your keys
Chorus:
Ooooh take my advice
And check your pockets twice
You want to know what you’re sending down the drain
For if you flush your keys
Despite all of your pleas
You may be stuck in the desert for a while
Drivin’ home across the desert sands
Just enjoyin’ the land
I pulled in to fill up my tank
My other tank needed emptyin’ first
Never suspecting the worst
I turned and pushed that little lever
Now modern plumbing’s nice to have around
But this time what went down
Was my entire set of keys
Chorus
Minor mishap or tragedy
I realized it was up to me
To make of it what I would
Well laughter lightens up any day
Even when you flush your keys away
So I laughed and thanked God for AAA
Chorus
Home In Here
I wish I knew just what to say
I wish I had the words to brighten your day
I’d send some inspiration your way
A little light on this dark day
If I had a poet’s golden tongue
I’d give you verse to lift you shinin’ like the sun
I keep on lookin’ but I I don’t find a one
Just a thought that won’t move on
Chorus:
That I know I know We are not alone
Oh I know I know We are not alone
I know I know We are not alone
We’re comin’ home we’re comin’ home we’re comin home
We’re comin’ home we’re comin’ home we’re comin home
If I had a song I’d sing to you
A song of hope and makin’ it through
With no fear for what you might lose
But all I’ve got is these here blues
Blues in my mind, I got blues in my heart
Try as I might to make a new start
Fog rolls in clouding all my careful art
One thought keeps me from the dark
Mud & Ashes
The rain falls, and still we go on
The fire burns and we use the ashes
To fertilize our gardens
We mix them with mud
To make the brick that build our homes
Where is your home, child?
Where do you live?
Can you see or does the fear cloud your eyes
Make the whole world black
Where is your home, child?
Where do you live?
Can you build it strong or do you make
Castles in the sand?
Build your home child, of mud and ashes
But leave a little hole to let in the rain
Then when the sun shines, child
Ooo when the clouds clear
Bright and shining color will fill your home
And when the sun shines
Don’t forget the rain
It takes both to make us whole
Help us grow
